Heart of Darkness Foundation

The Heart of Darkness Foundation is a non-profit whose mission is to illuminate the physical and cultural destruction committed by the Western world from 1492 to the present, to educate the descendants of both the conqueror and conquered in regard to how the colonial system has promulgated misperceptions of self and of "the other", and to rebuild those cultures and communities through education and reparations.

The Congolese people, including children, were forced to labor for the Belgians in Leopold's Congo Free State.  If they did not cooperate, hands and arms would be severed.
